About BKR Studio
A little history
BKR Studio was founded in 1983 by the company president, Brian Rideout. BKR Studio's roots are in commercial photography and design, but it quickly grew into a self-contained multimedia and Web development production studio. Our studio contains our data center where we host our client’s Web sites and stream their video projects, an open environment where our team of professional Web designers, developers and programmers bring award winning Web sites to life, commercial photography and video production facilities and an old Irish Setter who only seems to come to life around lunch time. We have continually grown and expanded, evolved, maybe even mutated (hey, a project manager with three eyes is kind of handy!), to take care of our client’s needs. We have evolved from a photo studio, to a graphic design, to a multimedia studio and on to a video production facility. Amazingly, we still perform most of those services
(anyone remember 35mm slides? LCD projectors killed off slides very quickly!). In 1996, clients started asking if we could build Web sites and in true entrepreneurial fashion we said "Sure we can!". That decision turned out to be the smartest choice we ever made. Web site design, development and hosting now makes up 95% of the work we perform for our client’s. We’ve grown from a guy with a camera in 1983 to a staff of eight today.
Our philosophy and approach
Over the years we’ve won awards for our work, Web site designs in particular. In fact, for many years we used the slogan “Award Winning Web Sites That Work” for many years. But like other small businesses we realized that awards didn’t have much value at the bank and we’ve instead focused on the “That Work” part. We’ve realized that we seem to have a natural ability to help our client’s succeed on the Web. We, by chance or design, wandered down the path of giving the search engines what they needed to see first (getting visitors and traffic to your site) and then giving site visitors a clean simple and easily-navigated site that they customers find easy to use.
Perhaps it’s because we have the designers (long hair creative types) on one side of the room and the programmers ("Talk nerdy to me!") on the other side? This natural tension ensures that your Web site won’t be so creative that it’s just a bunch of graphics (gorgeous but invisible to search engines and slow to load) nor will it be loaded down with the latest whiz bang plug-in requiring animated flaming logo from the geeks (ok, so we do have a Flash animation in the header of our own pages… it’s the only one --- I promise!). When the tug of war over the site stops you will have a nicely balanced site... a site that ranks well on the search engines looks good, loads quickly, and works like it’s supposed to, putting dollars in your pocket.
